The angel Gabriel had announced to Mary that God would soon give a son to Elizabeth. \u00a0The Virgin at once b=went to Hebron, where her cousin lived: \u00a0that is the mystery of the Visitation which is solemnized on the day following the octave of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.<\/p>\n

On this day, as in the season of Advent, the Church traditionally recalls together the memories of the Precursor and of Jesus and Mary. \u00a0The Virgin, Mother of God, who bears and gives birth to Him who bears and produces all things, then pronounces a “sublime canticle”, the Magnificat: \u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
M<\/span>AGNIFICAT<\/span>\u00a0* anima mea Dominum,
\net exultavit spiritus meus * in Deo salvatore meo,
\nquia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae. *
\nEcce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes,<\/td>\n		M<\/span>Y<\/span>\u00a0soul doth magnify * the Lord,
\nand my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Savior.
\nFor He hath regarded the humility of His handmaiden.*
\nFor behold, from henceforth all generations shall call
\nme blessed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
quia fecit mihi magna, qui potens est,*
\net sanctum nomen eius,
\net misericordia eius in progenies et progenies *
\ntimentibus eum.<\/td>\n		For He that is mighty hath done great things to me, *
\nand holy is His Name.
\nAnd His Mercy is from generation unto generations *
\nupon them that fear Him.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fecit potentiam in brachio suo, *
\ndispersit superbos mente cordi sui;
\ndeposuit potentes de sede *
\net exaltavit humiles;
\nesurientes implevit bonis *
\net divites dimisit inanes.<\/td>\n		He hath shewed might in His arm, *
\nHe hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
\nHe hath put down the mighty from their seat, *
\nand hath exalted the humble.
\nHe hath filled the hungry with good things, *
\nand the rich He hath sent empty away.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Suscepit Israel puerum suum, *
\nrecordatus misericordiae,
\nsicut locutus est ad patres nostros, *
\nAbraham et semini eius in saecula.<\/td>\n		He hath received Israel, His servant, *
\nbeing mindful of His mercy.
\nAs He spoke to our Fathers, *
