{"id":17779,"date":"2016-07-24T20:10:33","date_gmt":"2016-07-25T01:10:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/?p=17779"},"modified":"2016-07-24T20:10:33","modified_gmt":"2016-07-25T01:10:33","slug":"jesus-says-you-are-gods-jn-1034-how-is-this-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/?p=17779","title":{"rendered":"Jesus says, \u201cYou are gods.\u201d (Jn. 10:34) How is this possible?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Jn-10_34.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17780\" src=\"http:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Jn-10_34-300x186.png\" alt=\"Jn 10_34\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Jn-10_34-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/luisapiccarreta.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Jn-10_34.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">PUBLISHED\u00a0and\u00a0WRITTEN BY\u00a0<strong><span class=\"entry-author\"><a class=\"entry-author-link\" href=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2016\/07\/gods-jn-1034\/#.V5VlxmUZw7b\" rel=\"author\"><span class=\"entry-author-name\">DEACON GUADALUPE RODRIGUEZ<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At baptism, we become\u00a0<i>\u201c<\/i><i>partakers of the divine nature,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(CCC 1265 or 2Pt.1:4) or as St. Athanasius states that we are, \u201c<i>becoming by grace what God is by nature.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0The Catechism quotes St. Athanasius to explain this teaching,\u00a0<i>\u201cFor the Son of God became man so that we might become God,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(460) and furthermore it explains,\u00a0<i>\u201cThe only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that He, made man, might make men gods.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(CCC 460)<\/p>\n<p>For most of us, the concept that\u00a0<b>\u201cYou are gods.\u201d<\/b>(Jn. 10:34) or that we are being \u201cdivinized\u201d is difficult to grasp so let us first look at Jesus\u2019 baptism when the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus and the Heavenly Father says,\u00a0<b>\u201cThis is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.\u201d<\/b>(Matt. 3:17) Likewise, the Holy Spirit also descends into our souls at baptism, and we, too, become His sons and daughters as the Psalmist states,\u00a0<i>\u201cYou are \u2018gods\u2019; you are all sons of The Most High.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(82:6) \u00a0The Heavenly Father\u2019s words also apply to us as when St. Faustina hears Him say, \u201c<b>You are My delightful dwelling place; My Spirit rests in you.\u201d\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0(Diary 346)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_272318\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><span class=\"pibfi_pinterest \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-272318 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OurLadyHeart-142x190.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 142px) 100vw, 142px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OurLadyHeart-142x190.png 142x, http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OurLadyHeart.png 477x\" alt=\"OurLadyHeart\" width=\"142\" height=\"190\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our Lady of the Divine Indwelling<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>St. Paul reminds us that we are temples of God, \u201c<i>Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?\u201d\u00a0<\/i>(1Cor.6:19) and\u00a0<i>\u201cFor this reason, those in whom the Spirit dwells are divinized.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(CCC 1988) Divinization also means that the Holy Spirit makes us,\u00a0<i>\u201ca new creature.\u201d<\/i>(CCC 1265) However, it is not just the Holy Spirit that dwells in our souls, but it is also the Holy Trinity. \u00a0\u00a0The Catechism explains that baptism is the\u00a0<i>\u201centry into the life of the Most Holy Trinity,\u201d<\/i>(1239) and we become\u00a0<i>\u201cthe indwelling of His Presence in us\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(2781).<i>\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_272317\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><span class=\"pibfi_pinterest \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-272317 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Trinity-150x150.png\" alt=\"Trinity\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trinity<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>St. John Paul II enlightens us that\u00a0<i>\u201c\u2018Divinization\u2019\u2026occurs through the admission into the intimacy of the Trinitarian life\u201d,<\/i>\u00a0(Novo Millennio Ineunte no. 23) as when the Holy Trinity speaks in the soul of St. Faustina, \u201c\u2018<b>You are Our dwelling place.\u2019\u00a0<\/b><i>At that moment, I felt in my soul the presence of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I felt that I was the temple of God. I felt I was a child of the Father,\u201d<\/i>she said. (Diary 451)<\/p>\n<p>St. Faustina says,\u00a0<i>\u201cDivinize me so that my deeds may have supernatural value,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(1242) but she remains a meek and humble student of the indwelling Presence. She accepts to be molded regardless of her sins and frailties. \u00a0Jesus explains to St. Faustina what He can do despite our faults and failings,\u00a0<b>\u201cYour heart is My constant dwelling place, despite the misery that you are. \u00a0I united Myself with you, to take away your misery and give you My mercy.\u201d\u00a0<\/b>(Diary 723) \u00a0She learns to worship the Holy Trinity within her soul so well that the Blessed Virgin Mary appears to her explaining the divinization going on in her soul,\u00a0<i>\u201cYou are a dwelling place pleasing to the living God; in you, He dwells continuously with love and delight. And the living presence of God, which you experience in a more vivid and distinct way, will confirm you, my daughter, in the things I have told you.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(Diary 785)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_231916\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><span class=\"pibfi_pinterest \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-231916\" src=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Divine-Mercy-and-Faustina-215x190.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Divine-Mercy-and-Faustina-215x190.jpg 215x, http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Divine-Mercy-and-Faustina.jpg 393x\" alt=\"Divine Mercy and St Faustina\" width=\"215\" height=\"190\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Divine Mercy and St Faustina<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>St. Faustina continues to plead with God,\u00a0<i>\u201cDivinize me that my deeds may be pleasing to You,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(Diary 1289) so the Blessed Virgin Mary gives her instruction on how to live continually with the indwelling Presence,\u00a0<i>\u201cMy daughter, strive after silence and humility, so that Jesus, who dwells in your heart continuously, may be able to rest. Adore Him in your heart; do not go out from your inmost being.<\/i>\u00a0<i>My daughter, I shall obtain for you the grace of an interior life which will be such that, without ever leaving that interior life, you will be able to carry out all your external duties with even greater care. Dwell with Him continuously in your heart. He will be your strength. Communicate with creatures only in so far as is necessary<\/i>\u00a0<i>and is required by your duties.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>(Diary 785)<\/p>\n<p>Divinization is difficult to understand due to the way we view ourselves,\u00a0<i>\u201cwe hold this treasure in earthen vessels,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(2Cor.4:7) but\u00a0<i>Instrumentum Laboris<\/i>\u00a0instructs us that the\u00a0<i>\u201cEucharist is the summit of the Church\u2019s life, since communion with the Lord leads to the sanctification and \u201cdivinization\u201d of the person.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>(1) Similarly, to help St. Faustina comprehend, Jesus tells her that as she sees Him outside so He is within,\u00a0<b>\u201cI am dwelling in your heart as you see Me in this chalice.\u201d<\/b>\u00a0(1820) \u00a0But, why is all this relevant or important to us now? \u00a0Because\u00a0<b><i>\u201cThe hour is coming when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth.\u201d<\/i><\/b>\u00a0(John 4:23)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_272321\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><span class=\"pibfi_pinterest \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-272321 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Sacred-Heart-StMargretMary-550x292.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Sacred-Heart-StMargretMary-550x292.jpg 550x, http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Sacred-Heart-StMargretMary-332x176.jpg 332x, http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Sacred-Heart-StMargretMary.jpg 660x\" alt=\"Sacred-Heart-StMargretMary\" width=\"550\" height=\"292\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Marget Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yes, the hour is coming very soon when there will be no physical Church to worship in as Pope Benedict XVI explains in the year 2010:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cThis passage in chapter 4 of John\u2019s Gospel is the prophecy of a worship in which there will no longer be any temple, but in which the faithful will pray without an external temple in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the Gospel, in communion with Christ;
