Ordained a priest on June 25, 1836, for the Diocese\u00a0of New York. He is assigned to the &#8220;Niagara Area&#8221; of upstate New York; arrives in Buffalo on July 12, 1836.<\/li>\n<li><strong>January 16, 1842<\/strong>, John Neumann becomes the first Redemptorist to\u00a0profess vows in the U.S.A. His first assignment is\u00a0in Baltimore, MD; then on to Pittsburgh, PA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>March 15, 1847\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Fr. Neumann is appointed &#8220;General Superior&#8221; of American Redemptorists.<\/li>\n<li><strong>February 10, 1848<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; John Neumann becomes an American\u00a0citizen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>March 28, 1852\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; (41st\u00a0Birthday) Rev. John Neumann was consecrated the 4th\u00a0Bishop of Philadelphia. Established the Diocesan School System and a Diocesan Schedule for 40 Hours Devotion. Built many schools and churches.<\/li>\n<li><strong>December 8, 1854<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Bishop Neumann was in attendance for Pope Pius IX&#8217;s proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception. Upon the recommendation of the Pope, Bishop Neumann established the Third Order of Sisters of St. Francis.<\/li>\n<li><strong>January 5, 1860<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Bishop Neumann dies while running errands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1921<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Declared &#8220;Heroic in Virtue&#8221; (Pope Benedict XV).<\/li>\n<li><strong>1963<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Declared &#8220;Blessed&#8221; (Pope Paul VI).<\/li>\n<li><strong>1977<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Canonized a Saint (Pope Paul VI).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. John Neumann (Click here for more information) His Legacy March 28, 1811\u00a0&#8211; Born in Prachatitz, Bohemia &amp; Baptized on the same day. 1836\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Sails for America.
